Why have a funeral?
It is a celebration of a life and gives everyone who has been touched by that life a chance to say goodbye. It is also a time to come together and support each other through a difficult time.
Who makes the arrangements with the funeral director?
If the deceased has left a Will, then it is the responsibility of the executor. When there is not a Will, authority rests with the next of kin. Although other family members are welcome to be present when making the arrangements.
Does burial or cremation cost the same?
Generally cremation is cheaper although there can be variations on this. We will be able to advise costs depending on your situation.
Is a viewing necessary?
This is a personal choice. Although some may find the viewing a painful experience, it can often help them to accept death and cope with their loss. Others may find thelast contact with their loved one of great comfort.
What is the difference between a coffin and a casket?
A coffin is a tapered shape to resemble the body and has a removable lid. Whereas a casket is straight sided and has a hinged lid.
Can pre-paying my funeral affect my pension?
Pre-paid funeral contracts are exempt from asset tests, regardless of their value.
